Baking For Comic Relief 2019 - Life Skills At The Key
This half-term in Life Skills we built up to Comic Relief Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March - by planning fundraising activities, coming up with a number of different ideas and thinking about why it is important to raise funds and be active members of our community.
This led to our cake sale on 15th March. The total we raised was £56, which was really great; seeing the positive and respectful attitude of the pupils during the cake sale made it even better. Thanks go to Miss Browne and Miss Harwood for coordinating the majority of the cake baking throughout the week of Red Nose Day.
Comic Relief is raising money for four key areas of work, which we have used as the structure of our Life Skills lessons during this half-term. They are:
helping children to survive and thrive
providing safe places to live
fighting for gender equality
promoting positive mental health
So far in our lessons we have focused on the current global refugee crisis, with pupils thinking about how they would feel if they were in the same position as refugees, as well as gaining an understanding of how some people find themselves in such situations. We have also learned about children’s rights, which has been a real eye-opener for many of our pupils, as it has helped them gain insights into some of the difficult issues faced by people around the world. We have had some mature conversations about these topics.
We are on the lookout for more charities to support with fundraising activities, so please keep checking this blog for information about future events. Please do let us know of any charities you think our pupils should learn about.
