Outreach Services

At The Key Education Centre, alongside our in-reach service, where pupils attend one of our sites, we also offer an outreach service, which has been running for over 3 years at our Gosport site and since the beginning of the academic year 20-21 at our Havant site. The purpose of our Outreach service is to provide flexible and bespoke support to all our partner Secondary Schools in both the wider Havant and Fareham & Gosport communities, with the ultimate aim of reducing referrals and helping to prevent exclusions, so pupils have the best possible opportunity to remain educated at their mainstream school

Across both sites, we have a team of two Outreach leads and three Outreach workers, who are responsible for liaising closely with our local partner schools and working collaboratively to most accurately assess and develop solutions that support the individual needs of their pupils. To access our Outreach support, school leaders (usually Head of Years, or Pastoral Leads) contact our two Outreach Leads with a completed Outreach Referral Form, who will then assign, caseload dependent, one of the caseworkers to make contact

Work Completed by the Outreach Team

The type of work that the Outreach team carries out on a daily basis is very broad and highly individualised, dependent on the specific needs of the pupils. Some of the work we have completed in the past can be seen below:

  • Anger management

  • Restorative conversations

  • Relationship/friendship building

  • Self-esteem/confidence building

  • Conflict resolution

  • Discussing, recognising and addressing anxiety.

  • Using Motivational Interviewing to plan change with pupils

  • Specific learning related issues, such as low literacy and numeracy

  • Small group relationship and resilience workshops

Outreach Feedback

We have already worked closely with many of our local partners, who have kindly submitted some very positive feedback regarding how valuable they have felt working with the Outreach has been:

"The Hayling College has been using The Key Outreach service for most of the Autumn Term. We have been so pleased with the professionalism, flexibility and passion shown by the staff for making a difference to our young people. We have already seen tangible results and hope to continue using the service in future".
